This quick and easy recipe for a refreshing iced chai tea latte combines the aromatic flavors of chai tea with the creamy goodness of milk, served over ice. It's a perfect pick-me-up on a hot summer day or whenever you crave an energizing and flavorful drink. If you dont want to spend your coins getting chai at the local coffee shop, then make this your go-to recipe.

Use my recipe for the best chai tea concentrate. My homemade version of chai concentrate uses a blend of black tea bags, chai spices, vanilla and sugar. You can make a big batch and keep this copycat starbucks chai concentrate in your fridge to make drinks for the week.  If you like a stronger chai flavor, you can always adjust the amount of chai spices you use in the recipe.

👩🏾‍🍳What spices are in chai spice blends?

The spices in different brands of chai spice blend will vary. What you will typically find in this blend of spices is warm spices like star anise, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, black peppercorns and whole cloves. If you would like to make your own spice blend by grinding whole spices, then check out this recipe by fellow food blogger Shweta.

📝What other drinks can I make with homemade chai tea concentrate?

    • Hot - mix equal amounts of heated milk (can be plant-based milk) and warmed homemade chai tea concentrate
    • Chai coffee- use cold brew coffee, shots of espresso or instant coffee to make chai coffee (also known as dirty chai latte).
    • Vegan - make this drink vegan by using coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk or soy milk instead of dairy milk. You can also add oat milk to the chai concentrate and top with vanilla cold foam. This is the milk frother I use and it froths oat milk beautifully.

When you make your own chai concentrate, you can add more of the spice blend for a more strong chai flavor. You can also adjust the sweetness of the homemade chai by adding maple syrup or using brown sugar instead of white sugar for more caramel undertones.

    🍳Equipment

I love these can shaped glasses for serving this drink. You can also serve this iced chai tea latte in mason jars with lids. These are similar to the bamboo straws I used in the video.

    ❄️Storage

The main benefit to making your own chai concentrate is that you can make just one drink if that's all you want. Store the leftover chai concentrate in a mason jar in the fridge for up to a week. You can also freeze the concentrate in ice cube trays for longer term storage.

    👩🏾‍🍳Top tip

If you dont want your drink to be watered down, then freeze some of the chai concentrate in ice cube trays and use those in your drink instead of plain ice. This hack is perfect for those of us who like to nurse drinks.

    💭FAQ

    How does chai tea taste?

Chai tea has a suble sweetness and can taste like fall in a cup, if serving it hot. When it is served cold, you still get the effect of the spices, but they are more subtle when the drink is chilled.

How much sugar in a chai tea latte?

This chai tea has___ grams of sugar per serving, if you followed the homemade chai concentrate recipe. If you are using a storebought chai, like tazo chai concentrate, then your sugar calculation will be different. The nutrition calculations in the recipe card shoul only be used as a general guide as they are computer generated.

Q: Can I make my own chai concentrate for this recipe?

Absolutely! While store-bought chai concentrate is convenient, you can also prepare your own by steeping chai tea bags or using loose tea and simmering it with water and spices like cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and cloves. Once strained and cooled, your homemade chai concentrate is ready to use.

Can I make a larger batch of iced chai tea latte in advance?

Yes, you can scale up the recipe to make a larger batch of iced chai tea latte. Just adjust the quantities based on the number of servings you need and prepare it in a pitcher instead of a glass. This way, you can serve multiple glasses without having to make them individually. Don't add any ice until just before you intent to serve the iced chai tea.

What can I eat with this chai recipe?

This better than starbucks iced chai tea latte goes well with just about any baked good. Try serving it with:
